#16 Milpitas Trojans FOotball Preview
Talented Offense Leads Way for the Trojans
By Chris Jackson Wednesday August 14, 2012
MILPITAS-Another talented team brings a lot of excitement for the city of Milpitas, and
with the talent this season, there are lofty expectations.
Boise State running back commit Squally Canada is primed for another dominant season.
The three star running back ran for 987 yards and six touchdowns his junior
season and is one of the top running backs in Northern California. He also had
offers from Colorado, Colorado State, Houston, Nevada and Washington State
before deciding that he will play on the blue turf in Boise.
Another crucial player on the offense is receiver Tre Hartley. Hartley finished with 709
receiving yards last season is positioning himself as one of the top wide
receivers in the Bay Area. He currently has offers from Colorado, Houston and
Washington State.
Senior Ronnie Reed may have had a disappointing season last year, that shouldn’t
describe him as a player. He has a solid arm and will mainly target Tre Hartley.
Although he completed just 49 percent of his passes last season, expect that
percentage to increase dramatically especially with all the other playmakers he
can target on offense.
Replacing defensive Vita Vea will be extremely tough. Vea was the star on defense with 89
tackles and eight sacks while also rushing for 578 yards on 47 carries as a
running back.
Junior Jason Scrempos is flying under the radar. His sophomore season, he was one of
their leading tacklers accounting for 83 tackles as a defensive lineman.
Scrempos should be drawing college scouts to Milpitas very quickly if he keeps improving.
The linebackers last year were some of the best in the De Anza League. Brandon
Sualua closed out the fall with 95 tackles and Chris Malone had 82 tackles. Both
have graduated and coach Kelly King is looking to replace what was one of the
best linebacker cores in the league.
Their matchup against Palo Alto should most likely determine who wins the De Anza
League. Palo Alto reurns Stanford commit, 5-star quarterback Keller Chryst and
the defense for the Trojans will need to shut him down if they want to come out
with the victory.
Valley Christian-San Jose is a strong nonleague opponent that Milpitas would love to
beat. Valley Christian has a tremendous coach in Mike Machado and is a program
that has a long standing tradition of excellence on the football field.
In addition to Valley Christian and Palo Alto, Los Gatos is another difficult test
on the schedule. The Wildcats return quarterback Nick Bawden, a San Diego State
commit. Both Chryst and Bawden have tremendous arms, and the reloaded Milpitas
defense needs to stop them if they are going to win those games, and possibly
the league title.
Last season, the boys in blue and gold finished tied for second in the De Anza League
standings and advanced to the CCS Division 1 championship, where they lost to
San Benito in a thriller 35-28.
Expectations are soaring for the Milpitas Trojans. The likelihood of a great season isn’t far
fetched at all, in fact it’s the most likely scenario. They want nothing less
than a CCS title this season, and we will see if they can accomplish that goal.
