#21 St. Francis Lancers FOotball Preview
Lancers Want Another Title

By Chris Jackson Friday August 9, 2013
MOUNTAIN VIEW-After an 8-5 season and winning the CCS Division 2 championship, St.
Francis hopes to achieve that same feat, and go beyond.
They want a berth to NorCal, but to get there they need to show they have what it
takes with a lot of hard work and their play under the Friday night lights.
A strong running game should be one of the main components to the Lancers’ success
this season. They return senior Alex Andrighetto, the team’s leading rusher last season and junior Devin Hurtado, who rushed for over 200
yards last season. Landon Baty also looks to get a lot of carries this season in the backfield.
Andrighetto will be one of the stars on St. Francis this season. As a junior, he rushed for
509 yards and had 385 receiving yards. His older brother Domenic, who graduated,
was an enormous part on their defense last season finishing the fall with 89
tackles. Football seems to run in the family.
Landon Baty is someone to keep an eye on this season. Baty ran for 183 yards and four
touchdowns while recording 104 tackles as a safety last season.
Defensively, things seem to be just fine. But they do have to replace linebackers Austin
Martin and Grant Tinker. Martin closed out his final season as a Lancer with 140
tackles and Tinker had 158 tackles. Replacing Shane Artim will be tough, who was
their sack leader last season with 11. However, they do return defensive lineman
Jack Casarez, who registered six sacks as a junior.
The passing game looks a little concerning this season, but not enough to really
alter their record. They lost quarterback Mike Lauck to graduation. Lauck threw
for 2459 yards and 26 touchdowns his senior season.
None of the Lancers main receivers return this season. Austin Woodard caught for 840
yards and ten touchdowns his senior season last year and Charlie Clark also
graduated. Clark recorded 546 yards receiving last fall.
This year’s schedule isn’t particularly simple. They travel to Oak Grove on September
6th, which isn’t an obvious victory, but it should turn out to be
one. Oak Grove is the only real test on the Lancers nonleague schedule.
Games in the West Catholic Athletic League are always tough. They have to take on
teams such as Serra (San Mateo), Bellarmine, Mitty, St. Ignatius and Valley
Christian-San Jose. Serra boasts 3-star defensive end Matt Dickerson and
Bellarmine features quarterback KJ Carta-Samuels, a Vanderbilt commit.
Although a WCAL title looks out of the question to some people due to Bellarmine, Serra, Mitty and
Valley Christian, the Lancers still have a good shot at going deep into the
Central Coast Section playoffs.
Expect another good season out of Greg Calcagno’s Lancers. The boys in the brown and
gold uniforms are focusing on having a great season in Mountain View, and we are
envisioning another dominant season out of them.
