Amador Valley 54, Foothill 40
Dons Get Revenge, Cruise Past Foothill
By Chris Jackson Tuesday January 27, 2015
PLEASANTON, CA-A year ago it was a game-winning shot in the final second that sent the Dons home with the loss, but that was then.
A monstrous dunk, a big run and a stingy defense led the way for the host Amador Valley Dons as they beat the Foothill Falcons at home, 54-40. It ended their three game losing streak to their crosstown rivals.
A monster one-handed slam by Jamuan Charles was only part of the story for Amador. Although it put the lead at 46-29, everything seemed to go right for the Dons.
They forced 11 turnovers and contained Foothill's top players throughout the contest. Star guard Seth Conn was held to 12 points and Brock Gustafson to eight.
The athletic D'angelo Finley put up just ten points and was another one successes by the Dons lock down defense. Inside, they weren't allowing much except for a couple of layups and committing some fouls. Other then that, it was all Amador.
Brandon Ruotolo's three from the corner gave Amador a 31-17 advantage early in the third and gave them all the momentum they needed. It set the tone for an array of huge plays from their offense.
Ruotolo finished with just five points and 1-of-9 from long range, but his deep three was one of the highlights of the night.
Stokley Chaffee and Rod Hajian led the way for Amador, scoring 11 points each. Hajian's quick start helped get them out to an early 10-4 lead as he provided a spark offensively.
With the victory, Amador Valley improves to 12-7 and 4-3 in East Bay Athletic League Play. Despite a 48-34 loss at league-leading Monte Vista on Friday, a huge victory over their rivals gives them plenty of momentum heading into matchups with San Ramon Valley and Cal.
Foothill drops to 13-6 and 3-4 in EBAL, falling to fifth place in the league standings. However, they already clinched an NCS playoff berth after beating Livermore on Friday.
