Dougherty Valley Comes Back, Wins 4th Straight Over Dublin
By Chris Jackson Friday February 6, 2015
DUBLIN, CA-Another rivalry, another thrilling finish.
Once trailing by 13 points, the visiting Dougherty Valley Wildcats never backed down
and defeated their rival Dublin, 67-62, shocking the entire crowd after a slow start.
Down 25-12, it seemed as if it would be Dublin's turn to seize control of the rivalry after
falling to the Wildcats three straight times. Instead, the superb play of center Dan Sheets told the story.
Sheets scored 20 points and was a force to be reckoned with in the paint. He was forcing fouls and making
many inside baskets, making him the key piece in the victory.
The stellar play from Sheets in the third quarter gave Dougherty everything it needed. His nine points in
the quarter had a huge effect, especially when he converted a three point play to give them their first lead of
the game, 45-44 with 2:53 remaining in the third.
Jushan Samra added to Sheets' efforts, finishing with 17 points and becoming a potent force offensively.
His contributions were one of the many the Wildcats have had all week.
Coming off a 35 point effort on Tuesday, sophomore Austin Fadal didn't quite live up to those numbers,
but he did make his presence known once again. He put up 15 points and has showcased all year why
he's one of the top sophomores in the region.
Aaron Changeur led the way for Dublin, finishing with 21 points, including 13 in the first half. Sophomore
Timmy Falls added 19 points and brought them to within 65-62 with 15 seconds remaining.
Falls' three didn't last, however, as Changeur's deep three fell short and Gabriel Manansala made both free throws,
clinching the Dougherty victory. Changeur's missed three came after a turnover, making it another electric finish in
this rivalry.
With the victory, Dougherty Valley improves to 13-9 overall and 5-3 in Diablo Foothill Athletic League play. The exciting
win helped it clinch an NCS playoff berth.
Dublin falls to 14-8 and 5-4 in DFAL with three more tough contests remaining against Las Lomas, Miramonte and Campolindo.
