Foothill Cruises to 3-0 Start
By Chris Jackson Friday September 19, 2014
PLEASANTON, CA-Another Friday, another ordinary night for the Foothill Falcons.
Foothill took a 48-7 lead into halftime and pulled out a demoralizing 55-14 victory over the visiting Castro Valley
Trojans behind stellar play from nearly every skill player.
“The defense just rallied to the ball,” said Kyle Kearns. “I’m so appreciative to have a defense like that that just comes
up with stops every time they’re out there and they shut down a great back in Namane.”
The victory has Foothill sitting at 3-0 as it has outscored opponents by a convincing 127-32, the best of any team in the
East Bay Athletic League thus far.
“Like I said before, just playing as a team and really unselfish and just playing for one another as a brotherhood," said
Kearns on keys to the quick start.
SMU bound quarterback Kyle Kearns was among the many notable performances for Foothill. He completed 10-of-13 passes
for 156 yards and 4 touchdowns-all in the first half-en route to another highlight night from the 3-star prospect.
Kearns sealed the victory after tossing a 41-yard pass to USC commit Isaiah Langley, giving the Falcons a commanding
28-0 lead just seconds into the second quarter.
“I thought I did what was needed to get done to get the W," Kearns said.
Langley made the most of his plays as he hauled in just 5 catches, but added to that with 111 yards receiving and 3
touchdowns.
The other Isaiah for Foothill, Isaiah Floyd, turned in another dominant outing and is garnering a lot of attention as a
junior.
Floyd rushed for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns on 4 carries. His 50-yard touchdown run to give them a 7-0 lead on just
their fourth play was the highlight of the evening.
Defensively, Foothill stepped up again as it’s allowed an average of just nine points per game. It held Namane Modise
to 31 yards rushing, who is one of the top athletes in Northern California.
Modise provided one of the few highlights for Castro Valley all night as he reeled in a 25-yard touchdown late in the
first half to cut the deficit to 41-7.
Kevin Galvan displayed a promising offensive performance for the Trojans as he totaled 69 yards on 5 carries.
Foothill’s toughest test of the season yet awaits in San Ramon Valley next week, a team that beat it 54-41 last year. The
Wolves are coming off a bye week after falling to James Logan, 28-23, and that matchup might determine the league c
hampion in EBAL.
“We’re going to watch film tomorrow and just get ready for them,” stated Kearns. “They’re a great team and there’s a lot
of talent on their team. We’ll be ready.”
