Foothill Routs Freedom, Improves to 6-0
By Chris Jackson Friday March 20, 2015
PLEASANTON, CA-After a rough beginning, the Foothill offense turned it up a notch.
Behind a five run second inning, the host Foothill Falcons trounced Freedom, 13-4, and improved to a
perfect 6-0 on the year.
Vincent Tanisawa got the job done and showed why he'll likely finish as an all-league candidate in May. He
went 4-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBI's, leading a dominant all-around offensive performance from Foothill.
Tanisawa drove in the go-ahead runs for Foothill as he drove in two on a single to make it 6-4 and that catapulted
the entire cast. From that point, the offense was clicking on all cylinders.
Ryan Sweeney came in to pinch-hit and it all went up from there. He notched a pair of hits and RBI's, including an
RBI single in the fourth to extend the lead to 8-4.
The start for Foothill was anything but perfect, however. Pitcher Logan Caton was pulled in the second inning after
allowing four runs. Freedom took an early 4-1 lead on him and made it appear that it would be their afternoon.
Joey Lea and Jake Wilson both came in and sealed it for Foothill, allowing a combined five hits and no runs. Tagging
those two's efforts on the mound with the dazzling offensive play helped them secure their sixth straight victory.
Through six games, the Foothill pitching staff has been impressive. Joey Lea has a no-hitter and they've posted three
shutouts. The opponents have scored a combined nine runs thus far.
After the defeat, Freedom falls to 2-7 and owns victories over Irvington and Las Lomas. It faces West-Tracy on Monday
and seeks to get back on track heading into more tough matchups against East Bay Athletic League opponents in Granada and Livermore.
