LIVERMORE-Livermore tried to get #Payback, but they were just a
little short in the end.
If you don’t know why we said #Payback, the back of Livermore’s
warm-up shirts read “#Payback.”
The game was close throughout, especially in the first half. The
Cowboys led Granada by just one point at the end of both the first and second quarters.
But the third quarter proved different as Livermore was starting
to pull away as they took a 52-44 lead through three quarter.
At one point in the second half, Livermore took a twelve point
lead and a lot of their fans and students were starting to think that they were
going to win.
But that wasn’t the case.
Sophomore Kameron Johnson and senior Dylan Tupper took charge
from that point on to help lead Granada to a 70-61 victory. Both of them
finished as our players of the game.
“Thank you guys!” said Dylan Tupper in a direct message to us on
Twitter after being awarded as one of the players of the game. “Glad I could
help our team. But our team as a whole should be given recognition for putting
in the effort to get me here.”
Johnson and Tupper each scored 15 points. Kameron Johnson was
taking control for the most part as he was initiating contact for the inside
scores and getting ome pull up and step back jumpers.
Tupper made key three pointers down the stretch for Granada. He
helped them take the lead and seal the deal. He finished the game making three
three-pointers.
Senior guard Collin Sommerhauser added to the key three pointers
down the stretch as he made two of them.
Austin Medeiros led Livermore with 16 points and seemed to be
doing most of the work for the Cowboys.
Neither team was making their free throws. Granada finished the
game 20-for-32 from the line and Livermore finished 10-for-22 from the line.
Granada sent up sophomore center Collin Stafford to varsity at
the start of the week after the backup to center Kory Kiviharju, Jay Kang, got
hurt. Stafford played a good amount of time against De La Salle on Tuesday and
on Thursday night against Livermore, he played good basketball finishing the
game with nine points and making one three-point shot down the stretch.
Both Granada and Livermore have already qualified for the
playoffs. Granada qualified with both their overall and league records and they
will be playing in the Division one playoffs for NCS. Livermore qualified with
their overall record and they will be playing in the Division two playoffs for
NCS. Playoff brackets get announced Sunday.
Scoring Totals: Livermore-Medeiros 16, Dayton 11, Merrill 8, Wilkinson 8, Hernandez 6, Morant 5, Glaviano 3,
Davidson 2, Kasten 2. Granada-Johnson 15, Tupper 15, Sommerhauser 9, Stafford 9, Jackson 8, Russell 7, Kiviharju 5.
3 Point Field Goals: Livermore-Medeiros 2, Glaviano. Granada-Tupper 3, Sommerhauser 2, Stafford.
