Granada Routs Rival, Defeats Cowboys 3rd Straight Time
By Chris Jackson Friday November 7, 2014
LIVERMORE, CA-Pure dominance on both sides of the ball displayed everything Granada possessed on its rival.
A strong run game, an effective pass game and a stingy defense led to a strong effort as the Granada Matadors
beat their rival Livermore for the third straight time, 42-7.
Timmy Harris put a scare into Granada early after big plays early on. He hauled in a 21-yard reception on a screen
and later tied the contest at seven on a one-yard run with 5:06 left in the first quarter.
From that point on, it was all Matadors.
Brandon Derdak returned an interception for a touchdown, giving Granada all the momentum and a 21-7 lead midway
through the second.
Dual-threat quarterback Brian Barnett out the game away early on a 21-yard pass to Jacob Mitchell, making it 28-7 Granada.
Barnett was one of the many players to pick apart the Cowboys defense, rushing for 53 yards and throwing for another 67.
Alongside Barnett, the ground game became the centerpiece of the Matadors attack. Ryan Silvas rushed for 136 yards and
two scores on 13 carries, and Jonathan Davis had 95 yards on 9 carries.
Silvas had touchdown runs of 6 and 33-yards, giving Granada 7-0 and 42-7 leads, respectively. His stellar performance had
a drastic impact on the result.
Granada's defense played its part as well in the rout. They held star running back Timmy Harris to just 23 yards on 15
touches and sophomore quarterback Daniel Crisp to 5-of-14 passing for 44 yards and an interception.
The win for Granada ended its season at 2-8 as it missed the qualifications for the NCS Playoffs after making them a year
ago. Livermore's postseason hopes were deterred after the loss as the only way to qualify was a victory over their rival.
