Hooper's Gem Lifts Spartans to 5th Straight Victory
By Chris Jackson Saturday May 9, 2015
BERKELEY, CA-The most anticipated pitching matchup in the country lived up to its billing on Saturday afternoon.
Justin Hooper delivered, tossing a shutout as the De La Salle Spartans (14-6) took a 3-0 victory over the nationally ranked
College Park Falcons (18-4).
Hooper's complete game did the trick and had the dozens of MLB scouts in awe after the fourth inning. After escaping a
bases loaded jam in the fourth inning, it was his type of game from there.
A seven pitch sixth inning was the highlight of the day for Hooper, getting through the heart of College Park's lineup. All
three batters he faced that inning are division one commits.
In his seven innings on the mound, Hooper had 10 strikeouts and allowed two hits. His laser fastball and off speed
pitches had the opposing hitters cringing for most of the contest.
De La Salle's three runs all came in the sixth inning, starting with an RBI single from UC Santa Barbara bound Michael
Reuling. Blake Ogburn followed that up by belting a two run home run to left field, making it 3-0 and setting up their fifth
straight win. That was also Ogburn's second home run in the last two days.
Michael McAdoo and Joe Vranesh each led the way with two hits for the Spartans, each posting doubles in the box score.
McAdoo's double helped set up the RBI single for Michael Reuling in the sixth inning.
The De La Salle offense scored the most runs on Joe DeMers, who entered with a 9-0 record and 0.22 ERA. In his previous
three starts, he had two no-hitters and a one-hitter before the defeat today.
College Park left six men on base and became a huge factor in its fourth loss of the season. It still remains one of the
favorites for an NCS title and has also clinched a Diablo Valley Athletic League regular season title.
