Antelope 64, Heritage 62
Late Comeback Isn't Enough for Heritage
By Chris Jackson Thursday December 19, 2013
DUBLIN, CA-Despite a monstrous comeback after trailing by 12
after three quarters, the Antelope Titans were too much for Shon Briggs and the
Heritage Patriots, as they prevailed in a thriller 64-62.
A sluggish start haunted Heritage in the final minutes. Trailing
24-15 at halftime and 40-28 at the end of the third quarter, a dominant fourth
quarter just wasn’t enough.
5’4” sophomore guard Marcus Wallace gave Heritage the lead 54-42
with 4:29 remaining after nailing a three-pointer. Despite the size
disadvantage, he scored 15 points, including four 3’s and converted an
And-1.
Wallace also pulled the Patriots within 42-41 after hitting a
three with 5:25 left, but Antelope came right back. Elmedin Jagurdija gave the
Titans a 47-44 lead just two minutes later.
Jagurdzija finished with nine points-all coming from behind the
three-point line.
Shon Briggs had a monstrous fourth quarter, totaling 18 points
in those 8 minutes, while finishing the night with 33. Briggs currently holds
offers from Nevada and San Jose State.
Briggs got Heritage within striking distance every possession
attacking the hoop and drawing fouls. He attempted eight free throws in the
fourth quarter, making six, and closed out converting
7-of-12.
However, Antelope was too much for Heritage to cope with. Guard
Mister Harriel polished off the matchup with 15 points, with 9 coming as a
result of fouls (converting 9-of-10 free throws).
Dennis Golovko added 11, and was a force to be reckoned with in
the paint after halftime with 8 points in the paint during the second half.
This hasn’t been one of the easier and more manageable preseason
schedules for Heritage. Facing strong opponents in Oakland, Granada, San Ramon
Valley, Cosumnes Oaks, River City, and San Pasqual have added to their strenuous
strength of schedule.
Concord is the next opponent on Heritage’s calendar tomorrow
night in the consolation semifinals. The Minutemen are another punishing test,
and will be another force on their schedule, as they fell to a 7-0 Amador Valley
squad 51-43.
