Cowboys Edge Amador, Jump to 2nd Place in EBAL
By Chris Jackson Wednesday April 15, 2015
LIVERMORE, CA-Late game heroics told the tale once again in the East Bay Athletic League.
After taking a 4-2 lead in the sixth, Ryan Ruley escaped out of a jam following a spectacular throw
to the plate to help the host Livermore Cowboys get past Amador Valley, 4-3.
Donald Camello singled to center to trim the deficit to 4-3 and the craziness followed it up. Jake Davidson
got walked and then James Cowick pinch-ran for Camello, only to be thrown out at home after Patrick Loughnane
singled and closed out the contest. It was just another day in EBAL.
The throw home from Jake Foscalina helped Livermore get its mojo back after dropping three of its previous four
contests. Now at 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the always challenging EBAL, they're one game back of first place.
Strong pitching from Dominic Foscalina helped them earn the victory as he tossed four innings, allowing one run
and three hits. He took over for Cal Poly signee Thomas Triantos, who sprained his ankle last week.
Jake Foscalina attested to the victory, going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and scoring once on a single from Ryan
Ruley to make it 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
Livermore added two more runs in the first on a double from Justin Mitchell, making it 3-0 and giving Dominic
Foscalina an early cushion on the mound. Mitchell's double was a pivotal point in the contest, providing them
with the extra run support that came in handy in the latter part of the afternoon.
Three hits from Patrick Lougnane were almost enough for the Amador Valley Dons. He had three hits, including
a double that trimmed the deficit to 3-1 in the top of the second.
Amador got within striking distance once again after Connor Mays brought home Jake Davidson on a suicide
squeeze, making it 3-2 in the sixth. However, Ruley got out of the inning by forcing a groundout to third baseman
Hayden Goldstein.
The victory for Livermore was its first over the Dons since 2009, with that one coming in 11-6 fashion.
Livermore now sits at 2-1 in EBAL, with the other win coming over San Ramon Valley. It's in early position to
contend for an EBAL title, something it hasn't done since 2008. Cal, De La Salle and San Ramon Valley are its counterparts
in second place.
