Monte Vista Routs Rival SRV

DANVILLE-Monte Vista outplayed, outperformed and just out
everythinged rival San Ramon Valley to “Run This Town Tonight.”
Warm ups started with the song “Run This Town,” which was the
way Monte Vista played to win 63-40 and complete the season sweep of rival San
Ramon Valley.
San Ramon Valley committed 17 turnovers, made just 29 percent of
their shots and after the start of the game, they looked out of sync.
The Wolves were up 10-8 late in the first quarter, but after
that, Monte Vista closed the half on a 21-8 run. Monte Vista outscored the rival
and host Wolves 55-30 the rest of the way.
Guard Trevor John led the way for the Mustangs in the second
half. He scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half along with great defense,
as shown in the picture above to coast to an easy layup.
“We played awesome team defense and really
played with an amazing intensity,” said Trevor John to us through Twitter on the
victory. “Also we wanted to get up on them early and keep pushing the lead more
and more. It's an intense rivalry and we wanted to make a statement.”
Trevor John had a great third quarter scoring 11 points.
Junior center Spencer Rust scored 11 points and
finished with six rebounds.
David Gunn was the lone reason why San Ramon
Valley was keeping pace with Monte Vista in the first quarter. He scored six
points and had seven rebounds in the first half.
Monte Vista finished the regular season with a
20-6 overall record and 11-3 in East Bay Athletic League play. They finished
second in the league, behind De La Salle. The Mustangs will most likely be home
in the first round of the North Coast Division One playoffs.
While San Ramon Valley lost by 23 points, they
still qualified for the playoffs. They finished with both a .500 plus record
both overall and in league play.
