Schneider's Complete Game Lifts Spartans
By Chris Jackson Wednesday April 29, 2015
SAN RAMON, CA-The Spartans did what they do best.
Behind another stellar pitching performance, the visiting De La Salle Spartans overcame an early deficit and
defeated the California Grizzlies, 3-1.
Cameron Schneider's complete game was a testament to De La Salle's success as he surrendered one run and
three hits. He also recorded five strikeouts and became nearly impossible to hit in the latter part of the contest.
After Cal took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an error, it looked to be its day as Mike Podany wasn't letting
De La Salle runners score and the defense was holding its ground.
Then the fourth inning came along.
Zac Guardino dropped a fly ball near the wall in center field and Michael McAdoo reached third with no outs. A
walk and a sac-fly from Armani Smith made it 1-1 and the Spartans turned it up a notch after that.
Two more runs came across in the fifth inning with the bases loaded. Michael Reuling singled to right and Blake
Ogburn was walked, extending the lead to 3-1 and that was all they needed.
No De La Salle hitter was able to muster more than a hit, but the efforts from UC Santa Barbara commits Michael
McAdoo and Michael Reuling did the trick. McAdoo went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored alongside a single
and an RBI from Reuling.
Mike Podany wasn't able to toss a perfect game like he did when he last took the mound against the Spartans in 2014.
In five innings, he gave up six hits and two earned runs and was unable to record a strikeout.
With the victory, De La Salle finishes the first half of East Bay Athletic league play at 5-2 and improves to a 10-6 overall
record. It sits one game back of Livermore for first place, pending its result against Granada.
Cal drops to 9-8 overall and 2-5 in EBAL as it has now lost five straight games. This comes after an impressive 2-0 start
to league play, but they'll look to get back to normalcy on Friday at Amador Valley, who it beat earlier this year.
