UCLA-Bound Farinaro is Leading Head-Royce to Success
By Chris Jackson Saturday April 20, 2013
OAKLAND-Steven Farinaro has been showcasing his talent, but
pitchers like him don’t come around every day at the small private school in
Oakland, Head-Royce.
The UCLA-bound Farinaro, who made an early commitment, all the
way back in September of 2011, has been unstoppable on the mound. He has a 0.76
ERA this season and has a record of 7-0.
But not only is Farinaro pitching great, but he has a chance of
being drafted right out of high school (the MLB draft is in June).
College scouts have been flocking to Oakland to see the
impressive right-hander, but they already know he has committed to UCLA, but
that doesn’t mean that the pro scouts haven’t shown up, because they certainly have.
Farinaro has struck out a staggering 86 batters this season and
has walked just 8. If that doesn’t impress you, I don’t know what does.
As a four-year varsity player, Farinaro has helped lead Head-Royce to
three straight North Coast Section Division 5 championships, and has only won
one of them (last season). Don’t be surprised if Head-Royce wins NCS again this
year, because they have the talent to do so.
So far this season, Head-Royce is 13-1 and has only lost to
Antioch (2-1), where Antioch pulled off the shocking upset. But overall, the
Jayhawks are a team to be reckoned with.
Not only has Head-Royce been dominant this season in terms of
their record, but they have outscored their opponents 150-25.
Of the 25 runs the Jayhawks have given up this season, Farinaro
has given up just four of them (that were earned). Batters can’t seem to hit
him, that’s why there has just been 17 hits on him all season, and if anyone
wants to try and beat Head-Royce, they need to get hits, but that doesn’t seem
quite easy.
UCLA is a lucky school to get the five-star pitcher. Farinaro
will be a key player in their rotation right away, and expect to be seeing his
name in the MLB draft within a couple of years (if not this year).
