Week 0 Games to Watch
#1 De La Salle vs. #15 Clayton Valley, Friday 8/30 @ 7:30 pm
Under new head coach Justin Alumbaugh, De La Salle looks to stay in the same form they
did under legend Bob Ladoucer. The Spartans come into the game ranked #1 in the
nation in Maxpreps’ XCellent 25 rankings and #1 in our Bay Area rankings.
Clayton Valley comes into the game ranked #15 in our rankings and look like the
favorite to win the DVAL title again in hopes of returning to the NCS Division 2
championship. De La Salle is a force on the lines, with seniors Larry Allen Jr.,
Sumner Houston and Drew Sullivan along with sophomore Boss Tagaloa, who has a
bright future ahead of him. Houston, and Oregon State commit, will be tough for
the Clayton Valley offense to get past, especially after losing 3000 yard rusher
Joe Protheroe to Cal Poly. Kahlil McKenzie also looks to be a tremendous force
on the defensive line. Kevin Griffin returns in the secondary. Griffin, a
Washington State commit, has tremendous speed and gives opposing wide receivers
fits. Offensively, the Spartans look poised for another great season. Chris
Williams leads theveer offense at quarterback. His arm and speed make him the
complete package. Arizona State commit Das Tautalatasi is looking to have
another great season, after being one of the main men on offense last year in
their state title run. Receiver/defensive back Spencer Wraa is emerging as the
star for Clayton Valley. Wraa caught for 324 yards and ran for 361 yards on
offense while accumulating 62 tackles as a junior.
#13 Monte Vista vs. #23 Castro Valley, Friday 8/30 @ 7:00 pm
Monte Vista looks to be an EBAL title contender this season after finishing just 3-3 in
league play last season. Castro Valley, who comes in #23 in our polls, will be
their first test of the season. The Trojans come in with underrated running back
Demareyeh Lane, who rushed for 1020 yards and ten touchdowns last season. Lane
will now be the main man on the Castro Valley offense, after running
back/defensive back Robert Taylor transferred to Deer Valley. Monte Vista comes
in with gunslinger Nikita Zamora, who threw for over 2400 yards in his junior
campaign. Zamora’s main target will be receiver Marco Zamora (no relation to
Nikita). Marco had 642 yards receiving last season. Brendan Landman is also a
star on the Mustangs at tight end and on the defensive line. Landman currently
holds an offer from San Jose State.
#22 Granada vs. Windsor, Friday 8/30 @ 7:00 pm
Granada will be looking to see how their two quarterback system pans out in the first
game with freak athlete Casey Soltis and pocket passer Tyler Offill. Soltis will
also be playing snaps at running back and wide receiver while also being one of
their main players on defense after accounting for 61 tackles. He will be
heading to Oregon on a baseball scholarship. Senior Riley Draa will emerge as
one of the stars on defense at both linebacker and strong safety. Draa currently
holds some Division 2 and 3 interest. Windsor is an experienced team returning
their quarterback Colvin McAlvain, who threw for over 1600 yards last season.
They also return their best receiver.
Campolindo vs. Heritage, Friday 8/30 @ 7:00 pm
Campolindo returns star receiver/defensive back Justin Dunn and quarterback Andrew
Zolintakis, who looks to replace 1st team all DFAL quarterback Brett
Stephens. Heritage is coming off a disappointing season where they went 3-7 and
failed to qualify for the playoffs. New head coach Don Sanders, who was a
dominant coach at the freshman level, looks to bring the Patriots back to the
playoffs. Heritage returns Nick Zalec at running back and Jordan Ruelas at linebacker.
#7 San Ramon Valley @ Buhach Colony-Atwater, Friday 8/30 @ 7:00 pm
San Ramon Valley returns to Atwater in hopes of seeking revenge on Buhach Colony
after losing 28-24 to them last season. The Wolves feature one of the toughest
schedules in the region as they face Buhach Colony, James Logan, Folsom, and De
La Salle in nonleague along with their demanding EBAL schedule. SRV returns
running back Marcus De La Pena, who currently holds an offer from Wyoming. JJ
Koski is an emerging leader at wide receiver. Matt Winaker looks to replace
Cameron Birse at quarterback, who is now at Arkansas State.
